The people building the Empire — on the field and around it.
Hector Zamora
FOUNDER & HEAD COACH

Hector Zamora

Born and raised in Southern California, Hector was a three-sport varsity athlete at Culver City High — All-CIF 1st Team in both soccer and baseball, and his league's baseball MVP and Player of the Year after hitting .525 and going 9–0 with a 1.23 ERA on the mound. With a professional soccer option on the table, he chose baseball: All-South Coast Conference at Cerritos College and a California All-Star Game selection earned him a Division I scholarship to San Jose State, where he hit .337 with 8 home runs and 57 RBI in 60 games and earned First Team All-WAC honors in 2002.

Drafted by the New York Yankees in the 2002 MLB Draft, Hector went on to play nine professional seasons across affiliated, international, and independent baseball.

He has now coached for more than 20 years at every level of the game — a first-base coach in pro ball, a decade as a college assistant and head coach on staffs that moved over 250 players into NCAA programs and developed MLB draftees, and 15-plus years with high school and club players. His club teams have won Perfect Game National Tournaments and the Babe Ruth World Series. In five seasons leading New Roads School, the program has claimed four conference championships and reached the CIF playoff quarterfinals.

OUTFIELD SPECIALIST · STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH

Erik Scott

“The Counselor”

An outfielder out of West Los Angeles, Erik played his college ball at West LA College and New Mexico Highlands University before moving to the coaching side. He has spent six years on staff at New Roads School in Santa Monica — where his teams have won four straight league titles — alongside club coaching across all age groups.

A hitting and outfield specialist with an added emphasis on strength and conditioning, Erik develops complete athletes — sound fundamentals, baseball IQ, and bodies built to compete. Known as “The Counselor” for the way he connects with and mentors young players, he holds a simple standard: effort and execution of details over skill.

His teams run on accountability, discipline, and a team-first mindset inside a positive environment where players build confidence and grow. The goal for every athlete is the same: maximize their potential and prepare for success on the field and beyond.

Sherry Zamora
CO-FOUNDER · DIRECTOR OF FAMILY ENGAGEMENT

Sherry Zamora

“Good vibes only”

A driving force behind West Coast Empire — and its co-founder alongside her husband, Coach Hector Zamora — Sherry is passionate about creating a positive, family-centered culture for players and parents alike. Baseball came into her life through Hector, but it was their son Zander’s journey through the game that turned it into a love of her own.

Several years of involvement at the youth, travel-ball, and high school levels taught her the game from the bleachers up — and showed her firsthand the impact that strong support systems, constructive coaching, and engaged families have on a young athlete’s development. She knows the challenges and rewards of being a baseball parent because she’s lived them.

Sherry believes successful programs are built on more than talent. She fosters a parent culture rooted in respect, communication, transparency, and teamwork — making sure every family that joins the Empire feels welcomed, supported, and invested in the growth of every player in the program. She also leads the academy’s content and storytelling, capturing the moments that turn a season into memories.
